I'd also like to add that a live DVD would not necessarily perform well, especially if users try and test out applications from the DVD. Since the beginning of the project, the aim was to produce a high quality installable set of applications for studio related work in audio, video, or graphics, and producing a live DVD was not considered something that would be useful.

Just because everyone else has live disks, doesn't mean studio has to as well.

I mostly agree with your sentiments, Luke, but I would like to add that there are those who will use a Live DVD to do a basic hardware test, just to get an idea what works out-of-the-box and what might need some hacking. In particular, it's always good to know if your internet connection is going to work right away, before you commit to a full install.
