  Hi,

trying running cheese from the command line. Some output might hint to where
the problem is.

  Best regards,

I installed UbuntuStudio on a laptop with a builtin camera

Is there a simple video recorder built in,
      (there SHOULD be)
or do I have to download something from Software Centre,
      if so what is recommended?

I installed luvcview and guvcview prior to installing cheese. I found the
advantage of recording sound and video with guvcview to be quite satisfactory
for small webcam clips. I can then edit with video editor quite easily.
