I've been thinking of getting a portable music player, maybe an iRiver
T30. Does anyone know how well it works with Linux? Is there
anything else I should know about it? I picked it because it's cheap
and supports Ogg Vorbis.

Any thoughts or anecdotes would be appreciated,

i'll check mine, the model number doesn't ring a bell,but i have
this to say:
 - you need a special driver to copy file to/from, a pain, since you
can't thus also use it to be at any friends place and copy data
   or music
 - i also like the OGG advertisement with mine, but the one i tried
didn't work! they also like to advertise that you can update the
firmware, so that new things be added (e.g. make OGG work ???)
 - mine has problems with dynamic range, at high volume i tend to
   hear rotten sounds.

Although i've read wonderful things about mine, i've been disappointed
with my particular model, an iFP-899 (1GB).

The T30 is claimed to be only XP compatible, not Mac or Linux
