I believe I have the answer to this problem.  The network card I was using, on the client, is a 3com 3c905B.  I replaced it with a dc2114 and viola it worked.  So I put the 3com back to verify that was the problem and the problem comes back again.  So I tried another 3c905B and it has the same problem.  So, my conclusion is that the driver in the linux boot disk is the issue here (from unattended 4.6).  You can tell me I am wrong, but I would have a hard time believing that since both of these cards work when installed in a windows machine.
 
As I recall the problem that I was having before when I posted about this was using another machine that had a 3com 3c905 card in it as well, and it would not copy over all the files either.

I have posted about this before and gotten some feedback, and I have also seen an e-mail from others about this problem, but I need more information because it does not make sense.
 
I have a valid windows 2000 bootable cd that I can install from and I copy the files to the unatteded server.   As a matter of fact I have copied windows 2000 sp2, windows 2000 sp4, windows xppro sp2 and I have the same problem from all of them.  I have moved to different servers and the problem ends up being the same.  Windows is in the process of copying the files and gets to 99% and reboots to do the next step. When I check the $WIN_NT$.~LS\I386 folder there are exactly 149 files missing.  I have not spent the time yet to figure out the exact files, but if I copy a 386 folder in from the cd then the process continues on as normal.
 
The feedback I got befo re was that the server drive is slow, but I have a really hard time believing that theory, since the files can be copied from a cd-rom drive during install where the process is the same - just a file copy.  The server is less than one year old an has an ata133 ide drive running at 7200 rpm.  The machine that it is going to is a mere pIII 450, so if there is a problem it is that the client is slow.  Can someone explain this better, and/or tell me what I am doing wrong?
