I'd suggest it could be its own question and an option in the _meta,
that way sysadmins can config it on or off if they know it just doesn't
work on eg Dells but is needed on IBMs, as opposed to having to add the
two lines it took me ages to find in the docs! ;-)

A registry page on the wiki could be in order too.

i suppose that some sort of BIOS/chipset  DB should be used then?
Since for some chipsets/BIOSes it works, for some it doesn't...

maybe we should use a blacklisting-approach? Suppose it always works,
except on X, and if it doesn't work on X, add X to the blacklist ?
