"make sense" stream of consciousness...

When I am reading and something doesn't make sense - doesn't connect with
what I already know or think I know - I stop and reread the passage if I am not
in a hurry. Sometimes I keep going hoping that clarity will miraculously
occur. That doesn't usually happen.

Rereading - check the meaning of words and phrasing and the antecedents of
pronouns

If I haven't misread, but there is still confusion or cognitive dissonance
(which is quite disturbing) I go to other sources of information on the topic.
The best source is usually another person who knows more about the subject
matter and can clarify what is not connecting to my schema. Sometimes I don't
have enough or accurate schema and I have to revise what I thouught I knew.
Sometimes the new information isn't accurate or clearly explained. A person is
a better source than a book or other media because you can ask questions
immediately and the other person helps you think deeper or make better
connections or gives you additional information to help you "make sense" of
somehting you have encoutered that is confusing.

OH! - I am going to take a leap - student discussion before, during, and after
reading or using other media should help clarify what they are learning as well
as deepen their thinking and even help them revise their schema. WHOA!!!

Does this "sound" right?

Am I "making sense"?
