I agree 100% with Ellin. Although it can be helpful to know levels for instructional purposes, it can also be limiting to students. I think that interest should drive reading choices, and support given to students so they can access the text. Joy/NC/4
How children learn is as important as what they learn: process and content go hand in hand. http://www.responsiveclassroom.org --- On Sat, 6/21/08, [EMAIL PROTECTED] <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: ...pg 149 "I fully support the need to have a clear idea of a child's current performance level in reading. I understand that if children consistently read texts that are too easy or too difficult for them they may well become disinterested, frustrated and disengaged. I understand that, too often, teachers have not paid close enough attention to the level and quality of the books children read. However I want to argue for a more moderate approach to book selection and especially to leveling given its limitations." _______________________________________________ Understand mailing list [email protected] http://literacyworkshop.org/mailman/listinfo/understand_literacyworkshop.org
