Thanks for the smart a** answer.  But to answer your questions..
The shafts are 1.5" stainless steel.
Reconditioning the shafts...
I have taken them to my local machine shop to make sure that they are
straight.
They have found no problems and are electro-polishing the surface.

When I asked the question about size I was just wanting to complete my
order I have been workon from a supplier.
