Victor: You may want to check the diameter of those shafts again. My 73 originally with 440s has 1.25 inch shafts. Unless you have diesels or someone replaced the shafts, I doubt that they are 1.5 inches. My recollection is that I used 1/4 packing. I don't have any experience with the Graftex Ultra, but it seems to be a step up from the teflon.
