I have been looking for a small diesel generator for a while now, and
seriously considering just setting a honda 2000i on the swim platform
when at anchor.  This is enticing for the price (although I doubt the
guy would want to ship it), and I don't mind a project, but is
something like this just a nightmare waiting for a victim?  I know
generators are more than just engines, and they can be pretty complex,
but what is everyone's take on buying a used one?  A new diesel 4KW
would probably be about 7 thousand when all is said an done, so
getting a used one for less than a thousand is obviously attractive-
and I am not COMPLETELY naive, I know I would be putting another
thousand or so into it.

Keith, do you find the 4 KW to be too small, or are there any issues
associated with small generators that you find distasteful?  I would
only run a small AC and battery charger.
