Are you talking about the entire strainer or the strainer baskets inside the 
strainer?
Maybe I'm missing something, but I think the plastic strainers baskets are 
fine.  I've rebuilt two of my bronze strainers (Groco) and replaced one.  They 
are all made of bronze and originally had Stainless Steel baskets in them.  Now 
they all have plastic baskets.  Even if the plastic baskets don' t last as 
long, they are inexpensive to replace.

How do you guys feel about the plastic sea strainers vs the bronze?
The plastic are much more affordable but someone recommended that I
not use them for my engines.
