Matt, There are wedge shapped strainers that are mounted over the bronze thru hull. I'm not sure if they were standard on the Flites or not. There is also internal strainers with removable baskets that mount on top of the bronze thru hull. If you have the wedge external filter, an internal would be redundant. The hole size is almost the same in both. I believe the external is made by Wicox. The internal are made by several companys and are much more money than the external. Below the water line, stick with bronze. Also delrin (white plastic thru hulls) are very tough, they do get brittle with age.
