My 1980 38 had an aluminium plate fixed in the high starboard outside of the transom. Several repaints see it sanded to a mirror finish. I have removed it with the idea, read sufficient enthusiasm, to try to see if x-rays will show the stamping; or was it just printed? Only other number I can find is on the back of drawers > Date: Thu, 18 Jun 2009 03:19:47 -0700 > Subject: [UnifliteWorld] Re: Hull Identification number > From: [email protected] > To: [email protected] > > > The Federal regulation states, "All boats manufactured or imported on > or after November 1, 1972 must bear a HIN."
