I totally concur with Rich. Having a household GAS generator running on a boat BELOW decks is a no, no. It is not made for marine use, not made to be in a confined space and very dangerous doing what you are suggesting.
You should also check with your insurance company with your plan. I think they will tell you, you will not be covered if there is a problem. As Rich suggested, only use it above deck away from any hatches or windows. One other point, unless it is a very quiet generator with an excellent muffler, you will really upset your neighbors with the noise. Capt. Also a fueling problem. Pouring gas or refuling below deck has a lot of hazards, plus storing gas in a container. Be sure to have a detector onboard no matter what solution you go with. You can run it above decks but you then have a re-fueling and extension cable, and a way to secure it to the deck problem. If someone could verify my model I would appreciate it. It has twin 440 Chryslers on gasoline. It does have the original Oman genset in the center rear of the hold. I am planning on removing it and buying a Honda next spring. My reasoning is, more efficient, no water flowing, noise reduction, space savings and weight savings. I have a lot of basic cleaning and updating to do but that is what winter is for. My windows are in really bad shape so I am covering them with Plexiglas for the winter then I will research solutions over the winter. Also like others I am looking for a window solution. The slider / stainless track solution looks like a headache so I am looking to replace them with fixed, more energy effiecient ones. Best wishes.
