I had a similar problem with Cat 3160's years ago. The heat of the engine
warmed up the cold fuel that was sitting in the fuel filters next to the
block and this caused a fuel lock.had to crack the bleeder valve and let the
air pressure out.might be the same problem you are having. When the engines
are running the fuel stays cool because it is circulating but when you stop
the engines the fuel will heat up from the ambient temperature of the hot
engine. Could be the same problem.just a thought.

Subject: [UnifliteWorld] Hard starting Detroits when warm

Hey All,

Like the title says, my Detroit 671's are VERY hard starting when warm. As
in...one wouldn't even restart. I had to go through the Ballard Locks this
weekend with just a Starboard engine. (NOT FUN) My batteries are brand new
this season and I know they are fine. Unless the block heaters are on (even
during the summer), the engines turn over extremely slow and are getter
harder to start. But when they are fully warmed up they are nearly
impossible to start and the engines turn over very slowly. My first thought
is that I either need to have my starters rebuilt or replaced. Anyone have
any other ideas?

Thanks,

Kerry
