NO, you do not have to replace the hole rear end, its no different than a car
or pickup, only bigger, way bigger... I don't know what model rear axle you
have, on mine it was a complete " third member" similar to a ford 9 inch in car
terms... the differential assembly comes out the front, no back cover like most
trucks or car differentials, it like the ford 9 inch, disconnect the
driveshaft, unbolt 12 or so bolts on the differential cover, undo the axle
bolts by the wheels, slide the axles out a bit so they are free of the
differential and drop the differential out and replace with a complete locker
assembly, at the same time I changed my gearing ratio as well, I think the
whole assembly used cost me 350 plus shipping, big truck units never seems to
go bad. all I had to do is run an air line to it and a air switch / valve to
engage / disengage it.
and to keep this boating related, im looking for a Vdrive, preferably hurth but
open to others... 1.2 or so ratio...
well, we do have to tow our boats after all, that's why I built this truck..

  Eric,
Did you have to replace your whole rear end to get the air locker? I
asked a guy about one today and he told me it would need a whole new
rear end, axle, blah blah blah.

Sorry this thread has turned into truck talk everyone

  Tom
