Hi Guys

My doors also took a beating this winter. The bottom 1/3 facing out was pretty
bad…

My buddy took the doors, replaced some of the rotten frame and completely
refinished them.

We used stainless steel plate (as a kick plate) to cover the really bad areas

He stripped the many layers of Cetol off with a heat gun and reapplied 5 coats
including a final glossy coat.

He even soaked the hinges in Lacquer thinner and they look brand new!

Doors look perfect now!

Cost: $0

Got a quote from Franks door - $2,500. I have a good buddy with a killer
woodshop who is going to work with me to build a new door starting in May
sometime. We'll see.

By the way he thought you might be able to rout out the plastic door to accept
hollow core hardware.

If you send me your email I can send you a picture of a first class locking
handle I used for my 42 convertible.

HI Bob. I have been having "issues" with getting mine put together. I found a
good shop to cut and polish a nice polycarbonate tinted door for me and the
fitament is great. They did a nice job. My challenge has been the hardware
to put it all together. I have found VERY little I like for lockable door knob
hardware (stainless of course) that works without it being a hollow core door.
I have used West Marine, Fisheries Supply and a few others with little luck.
Im holding off until I find the right hardware. Honestly, if I could have
found someone in the Puget Sound area that didn't want to charge me a
ridiculous $2k+ to build me a new door, I would have gone with a wooden one.
I know they are more work but I like the more classic look better. The
Polycarbonate will be very easy to clean, will never rot and is plenty stout to
keep people out that I would want to keep out.

Well, the rain this winter has permanently ruined the look of my cabin door,
finally. (42' aft cabin 1973)

I would love to see some pictures of the way people have dealt with a door
change.

Kerry, I know you were working on a new plastic door. Is it done? I'd love to
hear how it came out. I have to do something before this summer.
Also I feel the need to put new hardware to replace the cheap plastic original
knob which will mean a change in the framing as well.

Thanks everyone.
