Did you download the perl source code? Surely this needs compiling first or is there a ready compiled tarball?
Well, I must be frank, I am not sure. When I get into the graphical representation of the apt-get program I can look for installed packages. When I type in perl on the search box, a list of perl pacakges appear, some are installed others are not. What should I look for there to really know if the perl components I need are installed? jonolumb: Thanks for the words of suppor! (and to everybody that has tried to help!) Can you adrees my last post where I try to explain my problems with the unpaking process?
