I have tried posting in a related thread twice with no replies. I have
had Slimserver running in FC4 for several weeks now. I have
Softsqueeze
running on two clients and one SB (usually only one at a time though).
I
am seeking advice, suggestions, or help of any kind.

I can start playing from any of the above mentioned clients, sometimes
for hours, sometimes not, and suddenly the music stops in the middle
of
a song, or sometimes changing songs but that is less often. I have
watched processor usage and it is usually at about 10% or less (will
jump higher briefly), memory usage is fine while Slimserver is
operating properly. After the hang Slimserver is still running with
little to no processor usage. Stopping the slimserver and restarting
does nothing. The client window will connect, but the screen will be
black. Attempts to use the http interface do not work, it will just
stay trying to connect yet it does not timeout. I tried installing
Slimserver on XP Pro but when giving it the path to the files it tells
me:

New value for Music Folder rejected:
Oops - "\\filecentral\public\music" doesn't seem to be a valid
directory. Try again.

Or if I map a drive locally:

New value for Music Folder rejected:
Oops - "G:\" doesn't seem to be a valid directory. Try again

I really want to keep the files on the network share. It has a 100MB
interface which should be more than enough for the data Slimserver
needs. My network hardware is a Dell PowerConnect Gigabit switch. My
Network card for slimserver is an Intel Pro Gigabit.

So back to linux. This black window will stay like that for 5-10
minutes and then it will reconnect and all is fine. Attempts to access
the music file from another PC reveals some permission problems (only
while the slimserver is hung though). A reboot fixes the problem
immediately and releases the file to access again (from Slimserver or
just for reading).

I'm begging for suggestions.

What spec machine is slimserver running on?
When slimserver stop responding what happens when you run top?

It sounds like slimserver is busy doing something or the machine is busy doing something.

Since the http session does not timeout this usually means it is going to do something eventually...

Answer the above and lets see what happens from there.
(Is the music and slimserver on the same host?)
