@original poster: What do you consider sufficiently "energy efficient" for a server? There's been a lot of talk about embedded devices, and of mini-itx-based small computers.
Just for the record, my main home computer is based on a Via EPIA M10000 (running FreeBSD). In the most thorough testing I could do, I could not bring its power consumption beyond 82W -- but this figure is includes the case PSU which sadly draws 21W *all by itself* (I'm considering replacing it with a smaller external "brick" style PSU). In idle, the whole computer -- with one spinning hard disk, one idle dvd, and a 4-port PCI ethernet hub, draws less than 40W. I know that 40W is much more than say a Soekris, but then again it's a "complete" computer.
