Easy: a) Because it's possible. b) Because it's neat. c) Because we're geeks (not necessarily a separate reason, but rather a logical deduction from a) and b)). d) (Seriously now): Because the NSLU2 has a very low power consumption, and is practically completely silent. It's anyway up and running 24/7, and it's the logical place to store my music collection (I want to access the mp3's from any computer online in my local network, and from the outside as well). Since the music is on the slug, and the slug can run SlimServer, it's rather natural to go for this particular arrangement. That is, if you own a slug and know how to tweak it. But allow me to repeat myself: I'm more than happy with the SlimServer's performance on the slug. I can easily live with the slightly slower response-time, it's definitely not too annoying. I suspect that one of Geert's problems is the old version of Unslung. Go for a fresher one. Dan, you're obviously a developer - can you confirm or deny my theory regarding well tagged mp3's? I've tried to make sure that, for example, all artist names are equal for the one and same artist (meaning that I don't have 'The Clash', 'Clash, The' and 'Clash' in my collection). Does this affect the speed and delivery of the queries? And finally: This thread was not originally meant to dis the work of the developers. The SqueezeBox in combo with the SlimServer (on my PC or on my slug) is one of the nicest piece of technology I've ever owned. The developers have done a fabulous work, and the fact that the software is so versatile that it can be installed on the slug is more than anyone could ask for. So, let's not frown at the way the SlimServer is designed, let's concentrate on how to optimize the SlimServer-slug-combo. Kudos to the developers for a job well done, may your beer never grow stale.
