So you would recommend FAT32?  Because you want to be able to write
playlist files (.m3u) to it, among other things, don't you?

The idea of live CDs is not to touch the installed system. I therefore uses a ramdisk for all your changes, configuration files etc. You can have SlimCD store this information on a memory stick or a partition of your disk, if you want. Please read the documentation for more details. And give it a go. It won't do your existing system a harm. There's really no risk trying it.
