Well, what makes it noisy? Fan? If it has a variable speed fan, make sure that feature is turned on in the BIOS and O/S.
If the case is one of those thinks-its-a-vacuum cleaner cases, often they have enough fans for 2 hard disks and 2 CD ROM drives. If you only have one hard disk, sometimes with some care about air flow, you can shut off some of the fans. Or go to Best Buy or someplace like that and find a thermally controlled variable speed controller for the fans. They aren't hugely expensive. Hard disk? Is the hard disk seeking a lot? Make sure there's plenty of memory for disk caching. Just hard disk spinning? Ensure that the power down features have been enabled. Of course, that'll only help when it's not playing music or doing other useful stuff. -- Michaelwagner ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Michaelwagner's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=428 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=18586 _______________________________________________ unix mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/unix
