thanks for that. i think slimserver is running...as slimserver.pl is listed when i do ps -A, but i still can't connect. i've got the right ip address for my cc box, but the sb3 can't see it listed either. anything lese i can look for? is there a firewall issue either on the cc box or my xp box that prevents the network seeing it?
