FC6 is hardly bleeding edge, imo, and routinely trails
Ubuntu (Edgy *and* Dapper) on a long list of package
versions. At least, that's my daily experience managing both
OSs. Sending someone to get Edgy puts them closer to the Edge
        than FC6, no?

As for recommendations for newbies and Slimserver, I still prefer
        FC6 because:

           - The installation process is as easy, or easier, than any
of the other distributions ('cept Ubuntu).

           - FC6's hardware management - VERY important for newbies, as
you know - is superior in my experience to just about any
             of the other distros.

           - Most important: I have found the rpm distribution of
Slimserver to be superior to the deb packaging. There are
plenty of threads over the last year or two supporting this
             viewpoint.

None of this is to create a distro argument or even disagree with
you, really. I love Ubuntu. I am typing from it now. But,
the bottom line is that FC6 is, without question, a *better*
choice for a slimserver install than FC3 for the simple reason
that you can update it! FC3 is no longer supported, right? Not
to mention the dozens of other significant improvements.

I could also recommend CentOS for the reasons implied elsewhere,
but I find FC6 has some benefits (again, hardware related). We
install CentOS on our customers' servers and it's definitely not
        as newbie-friendly.
