        No, I think you've summarized it well.

        If you don't already have a backup of your music then getting
        another drive is always a good idea.  I've been saved _more than
        once_ by my backups.  

        You can get the ext driver now for XP quite easily:

        http://www.fs-driver.org/

        Read the FAQ, etc.  
        
        Using ext2/3 will save you a lot of subtle grief.
