It's "easy" to boot SlimCD and use the menu system to set up a bootable USB pen drive. That's what I've done. My SS system is diskless and fanless with the music on a network drive. At shutdown, or on demand, my volatile data is saved onto a backup partition on the same pen drive. At restart, that volatile data is automatically restored before starting SS.
