I suppose it's my own fault for hanging around your thread on 'Migrating from Windows' (a good read, BTW). Seriously, it's an odd one, isn't it? When you watch what's happening in the 'Details' screen of the update manager, it never actually gets beyond 'Setting up libpath-class-perl 0.15-1'. I had wondered whether the problem was about having the right repository in /etc/apt/sources.list, as the upgrade process disabled some entries. I thought I'd reinstated everything, but I don't know enough about Linux to be sure. But the point the process stops in the Details screen suggests the problem lies elsewhere... ??? Maybe one of the Linux techies round here can help.
