It's been a couple of days with no further response so I guess I'll pass on trying to upgrade to Squeezecenter for now.
I did spend several more hours this past weekend looking for something/anything that seemed to be a sticking point and found nothing. It'll add tunes to the database if you play them directly from the music folder, but it simply will not scan the folder. I can't find anything that would seem to present a permissions issue. SC7 will say it is scanning and the hard drive will run for hours with no progress of any type. Reinstalling Slimserver 6.5.4 works fine with no hitch.
