Well, yes. I spin down the disk after a while when not in use, but I do
not mind if it spins while using the system. General logs are written to
a ramdisk so that does not matter. I run the the server 24/7 and my main
goal is just to shout down the disk while at sleep and and away from the
house (which is 60-70% of a normal day). I assume the server sw does not
access the sql database other that when I make a request for and album
etc? and when I do that it has to access the disk anyway to fetch music
data.

And yes, my plan is to have a replacement disk at hand fully prepared
with OS etc - but not yet...
