>From what you describe, you don't have a squeezebox. Since you wish to play the files directly from the server, I don't think Softsqueeze is really necessary and probably overcomplicates your setup. You could just use another media player (Amarok, Kaffiene, etc). To use any GUI app (Java, or otherwise) on the Linux box, you will need X. This hold true if you connect a monitor directly to it or if you run a remote X session. The idea of the SlimDevices is to separate the hosting of the media files from the media player. If you are trying to simulate what it would be like to have a squeezebox, you need to disconnect you Linux server from your setup and connect a laptop or another machine to it, running Windows or something. Log into the web page for Squeezecenter, download and run SoftSqueeze. Now you will play files from you Linux server through your laptop into your stereo. That's how you simulate having a squeezebox. Hope some of that helped. -- maggior ------------------------------------------------------------------------ maggior's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9080 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=48250 _______________________________________________ unix mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/unix
