I have this same problem with Debian 4.0 r3

I'm not an Linux expert at all but I have found the following:
I get the SqueezeCenter Version: 7.0.1 - 19705 @ Wed May 14 19:53:57
PDT 2008 - Debian - EN - iso-8859-1 status after booting.

However if i restart the service after the computer has booted with
/etc/init.d/squeezecenter restart i runs with UTF-8 encoding and
everything is correct. I know for sure that Debian runs with utf-8 when
up and running, but it seems to me that the charset is iso-8859-1 when
squeezecenter is ran during the boot sequence.

So the quick fix: just restart the service after booting and up and
running with utf-8.

The fix we really need: either to get the squeezecenter to run with
utf-8 during boot or a switch that forces it to run with utf-8.

The boot thingy is probably a Debian and debian based distro thingy, I
don't know, but the problem is that SC need utf-8 when executed it
seems.
