Hello again Mark, You may have hit the nail on the head as far as I
always thought it best to stop SC before upgrading I used to always do
this. Is it the same as well for adding more plugins I have similar
problems when doing this too where I had lots of trouble getting SC to
start afterwards. I will follow your advice with apparmour with the
stops and starts hopefully things will go smooth next time! 

As for removing the Apparmour exceptions for SC and MySQL not quite
sure I understand this could explain this to me?
