There are some differences in hardware support. So in general, get a
live CD and see it it handles all your hardware. Wireless nics are the
worst common thing, but a music server should be using Ethernet to the
WiFi router.

Kubuntu is Ubuntu with KDE. For folks that strongly prefer KDE.
I can't tell the difference between Gnome and KDE, so I never pay any
attention to it. Its all your choice, what you like.
