Yes, but folks tend to be a bit sloppy with the term.
A technical "headless" system has no console at all. Not even a shell to
enter commands.

If you have a very, very underpowered system, you can install Linux
without X-windows. But I always install X-windows and a basic GUI shell
even on my headless systems.

I have an eight way KVM between my servers, but most of the time, nearly
always, I just SSH in from a laptop. Its cold and noisey in my basement
where the servers are.

In practice, a Linux server running SqueezeCenter doesn't need a GUI.
And it rarely needs anything. I just find it easier for me, the sysadmin
to have some GUI tools for updates, disk configuration etc. and if you
don't use them, it doesn't add any real load to the system.
