Truthfully, I'm not all that sure what I gave up.  Mainly I wanted this
machine to do three things - squeezecenter server primarily - then as a
web surfing and email machine on occasion.  It was pretty easy to
convince myself that a i386 Ubuntu reinstall could do all this, but the
lpia version I was trying to get to work couldn't even serve its primary
purpose (at least at my linux/ubuntu skill level).  Easy decision for
me.

The one thing I know is different is that Dell had a custom graphical
interface that was supposed to be tailored to this machine, but there
is a set of programs that form a "Ubuntu Netbook Remix" which is
supposed to be specifically designed for Netbooks.  This set of
programs creates a modified graphical interface to Ubuntu that seemed
like a good substitute for the Dell interface (if you even want to go
away from the "standard" interface).
