Truthfully, I'm not all that sure what I gave up. Mainly I wanted this machine to do three things - squeezecenter server primarily - then as a web surfing and email machine on occasion. It was pretty easy to convince myself that a i386 Ubuntu reinstall could do all this, but the lpia version I was trying to get to work couldn't even serve its primary purpose (at least at my linux/ubuntu skill level). Easy decision for me.
The one thing I know is different is that Dell had a custom graphical interface that was supposed to be tailored to this machine, but there is a set of programs that form a "Ubuntu Netbook Remix" which is supposed to be specifically designed for Netbooks. This set of programs creates a modified graphical interface to Ubuntu that seemed like a good substitute for the Dell interface (if you even want to go away from the "standard" interface). Sorry I don't have any more insight than that. -- dingJam ------------------------------------------------------------------------ dingJam's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=22565 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=57553 _______________________________________________ unix mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/unix
