I've considered this.  I'm not sure what software I wouldn't be able to
get "back" if I reinstalled the standard version of Ubuntu over what
Dell provided, but presumably it would take me a while to manually
install a bunch of software programs.  Other than that, the other
downside is it would be some sort of service/warranty void I expect...

I figure I should try to see if I can find a way to get this to work
first...installing a whole new operating system seems like it should be
a bit of a last resort, no?
