Hi all,

I have just made the effort to build a linux box to act as a server for
my music.
Previously I used a link station also using it as a printer server for
my usb printer.

The NAS was small and not very quiet, humming away as it does.

The linux box is kubuntu 8.04 desktop to avoid the slight complications
of KDE4. It is an old K6 box with a 2400 amd processor and lots of space
for spare hdds etc.

The result has been a complete success as access to the machine seems
to be more reliable than the NAS. Windows machines seem more able to
keep a connection, the printing performance in windows and linux is a
revelation and I have an easily usable squeezecenter installation
without having to hack the NAS.

the server is reasonably quiet but large and obviously uses more power,
but a much better experience than a NAS.

Do try your own box it will improve your Squeezebox experience.
