Thanks for the update.

The dropouts happen when SS is built using the newer libportaudio which
is needed for alsa support.  It appears to be a problem with blocking in
the buffering code which the v19 portaudio library brought to light. 
I've spent a considerable amount of time on this issue with no solution,
except to rewrite the buffering code.  I've documented my finding in the
TODO file in the source repo.

There have been several work around posted on the forums using dmix. 
There's a dot-asoundrc file in the source config directory  which might
help.  Copy it to .asoundrc in your home directory and logout and back
in.

Then run 

squeezeslave-amd64-alsa -L

to find the device number for dmix and start SS with -o12 replacing the
12 with the number from the list above.

You most likely need to 'modprobe snd-pcm-oss' as root to use the OSS
version.

Could you try the OSS version again after loading that module?
