Before reinstalling, you should backup your configuration. See this
page:
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/What_To_Backup%3F
This includes prefs and installed plugins.
On my system (the debian cousin) that page lists the following:
Code:
--------------------
Cache Folder: /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache
Preferences Folder: /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/prefs
Plugin Folders: /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins,
/usr/sbin/Plugins, /usr/share/squeezeboxserver/Plugins
--------------------
Your system is using the same directories. This one is certainly empty:
/usr/sbin/Plugins and this one probably too:
/usr/share/squeezeboxserver/Plugins (that's the one for manual plugins
install)
Be sure to check the backup(s) extract(s) fully, and with the right
file owner/rights, before trying anything else.
"tar --preserve" when extracting or "cp --archive" when doing copies
back and forth will preserve rights and ownership. Have a look at the
man page eg "man cp"
Also, make a copy of the good backup and put it aside, like on a usb
key you remove from the computer. Yes, a copy of of copy. I already had
some use for that myself ;)
Now, "aptitude reinstall" does *not* overwrite files. Missing files are
installed again. Maybe the installer will ask, for some system files, if
you want to overwrite or keep the installed version of file X. But it
does not blindly overwrite.
If the problem is in corrupted preferences files, reinstall won't do
good.
So if you have a good backup, you could then "aptitude purge" then
"aptitude install" anew. This removes everything, and installs.
Normally the pristine server must start, or the problem is elsewhere.
If a clean install works, and a reinstall does not, the only solution I
see is to overwrite the clean install with the contents of your backup,
little by little. And test a start/stop between each restoration...
