Thanks for all the assistance, but it is all working again now. I went back to the beginning and upgraded to the latest SqueezePlug image, which includes all the stuff that I started with.
It has been an interesting experience, but I don't think I actually learned much. Most of the process was simply re-installing things. Ho-hum. If anyone else has issues with SheevaPlug and SqueezeboxServer, just update the whole image and start over - it really is much faster than troubleshooting.
