I have now uninstalled the squeezeboxserver and purged it all. After a new install/update, I am still stuck in the same place.
Looking at the logs I see that every 10s or so the SqueezeboxServer fails to start and tries to restart again. I am at a loss to explain this now and searching around this problem leads me in circles.
