That's a puzzle. Did you re-run the "ps aux" command after killing SBS to confirm that it was indeed killed? If so, then the only suggestion I have is to try starting SBS using the startup script. I'm don't know how Ubuntu is starting services these days, but I'm pretty sure that just calling the binary is not the right way. Maybe something like "sudo services squeezeboxserver start"? If you don't already know then I'm sure a quick google or a visit to ubuntuforums will tell you.
