One thing to be wary of... When you make simple updates to tags the
file size will usually stay the same. This is because tags are commonly
written to files with some padding. So adding a couple of new fields, or
removing or editing them won't alter the file size. When you also
preserve the file modification times it means that Squeezebox Server
won't detect that the file has changed and a 'new & changed' scan won't
pick up the changes. There are basically two ways to work around this:

1. Run a full 'clear library' scan. This can be very slow on some
systems, so may not be an option. You may want to schedule an update
nightly using the Rescan plugin.

2. 'Bump' the file modification times by a few seconds. This is what I
and others often do. It will allow the server to detect that the file
has changed, but not alter its position among New Music.
