I have several Sonic Impact portable T-Amps that I plan on using.  I
wonder how I'll have to configure the volume in so that it basically
acts like line-out and not over amplified.

Yes, it is stored a Linux PC.  I can run Samba or NFS on it.
I back it up every once in a while to an external hard drive via rsync.
So... I could just plug the external hard drive to the RPi and have it
be an online backup rather than an offline backup... then the
