Ok, cool. Yes, I'd checked that - SqueezePlug appears to run the
SqueezeLite process as root. At least that's what it says next to the
process when I do a 'top'. 
I've had it playing for the last few hours - radio 2.. Yawn. And it
appears stable. Which is excellent. Thanks Triode. You're a star.
