1st off you are trail blazing here as I think you are the first to try
the hdmi output for audio....

What is the hdmi device - is it a TV or related? I know from the user
interface that the wandboard activates a screensaver for the console
session.  Could you try pluging it into a TV and a usb keyboard and
seeing if you get the same problem and if you hit the keyboard to wake
it up when it cuts out whether that helps?
