I manually edited the ifcfg-wlan0 file that resides in etc/sysconfig/network-scripts. Without the SCAN_SSID it did connect to non hidden SSIDs but not to hidden ESSIDs. Once I got it to connect to a hidden SSID I havent checked non hidden SSIDs.
