You're right, I missed that it's still used for the --exec option.
However, I think the messages come from start-stop-daemon itself.

I'd propose to either replace all occurances of DAEMON_SAFE by DAEMON
(seems to only one, anyway) or to use this:
DAEMON_SAFE=/opt/logitechmediaserver-7.7.2-33893-noCPAN/slimserver.pl
