I know this works great with the iTunes plugin but I was not aware that
this is possible for regular database scanning. By the way, my friend
does not use the iTunes plugin.
How do you configure that; is it just by not using the rescan database
plugin?

Also, wouldn't that result in the same problem: how does the scanner
know that music is added to the database?

He does not use jivelite. I personally don't find it very user friendly
to power up a tv or monitor to switch off the wandboard.
An electronic remote (smartphone or tablet) would be more acceptable for
this purpose because most of use already use the remote to control the
wandboard.
